Launch of the new institute
As of August 1st, University Professor Dr.-Ing. Katharina Klemt-Albert took over as head of ICoM at RWTH Aachen University. She succeeds university professor Dr.-Ing. Rainard Osebold, who has led and shaped the institute since 2003 and entered his much-deserved retirement on March 31.
Professor Klemt-Albert is not starting alone. In addition to research assistants from Aachen, the new team also includes scientific assistants from her previous workplace, Leibniz University Hannover, as well as some new team members - fortunately, as all hands and heads are needed to realign the institute.Copyright: © Klemt-Albert
The expectations are high, the plans forward-looking. In the future, the institute's research will be dedicated to digitalization and robotics in construction. For this purpose, the RWTH is renting new premises on the grounds of the Jahrhunderthalle Aachen - planning in full progress.
The transformations will also be reflected in teaching. In addition to the basic technical and methodological skills in construction management, the professor also wants to train students in digital competence, interdisciplinary collaboration and sustainability to become responsible engineers. Coordination with the faculty and the student council has already been initiated to change the curriculum.
The name of the institute is also still open. But the abbreviation for the institute has already been decided by the team: ICoM - Institute for Construction Management.
August 1st was therefore an important milestone, but ultimately only the starting signal. A lot will happen in the coming weeks and months, and we will join forces to do a lot of groundwork. We look forward to good cooperation within the faculty and RWTH and, of course, also to exciting collaborations with innovative business partners from the region.
